Welcome to the new and improved Community Bulletin Board. When I first wrote The Not So Big House back in 1998, I had a sense that there was a community of people "out there" that might want to share ideas with each other once they'd read about building smaller and better designed homes. I started the Not So Big House web site and bulletin board with that in mind. I saw the book as the seed of the idea, but the web as the trunk, the branches, and the leaves.
Sure enough the site proved to be a tremendous resource for many of the folks drawn to the not so big message, giving them access to everything from how to find the people they needed to help them make or remodel their own Not So Big houses, (see the Home Professionals Directory), to how to live their own lives more fully, (see Maitrhea.org) and everything in between.
And the bulletin board allows the members of this on line community to share their knowledge and experience with one another. Over the past six years, as I've continued to write and speak about the livability of home, I've come to realize what an important role the web site has played in this message's success. When people are able to talk with one another about something they care deeply about, that enthusiasm and passion helps spread the message. And of course many of us are very passionate about how we live our lives, and about the places we call home.
So the tree of knowledge provided by this web site continues to work, to bring people together, and to help share our collective understandings about home. I hope you will take advantage of the new features offered by this site, such as posting pictures of your own projects, and being notified when someone has responded to one of your messages. And I hope you'll let us know if you think of any improvements we can make.
