We're building the Home By Design Showhouse and are looking for others who are or have built the showhouse and are willing to share information about their experiences.

I am building it for clients. It will replicate in every detail the Vermont prototype. Email me at gdavis62@adelphia.net and I will tell you all about it.

I've just given the 2004V plans to my contractor for a quote. Any idea as to the approximate cost psf so I know about what to expect?

Our approximate cost will be $185 psf. We're building in Ohio. My understanding is that this is a low figure. Cost per square foot is definitely influenced by where you're building.

You said, "my contractor." Can we presume there isn't a competitive situation here?

Tell us your location and your specifications, and maybe we can help. Without that information, we are clueless.

Any idea why the 2004V showhouse plans are no longer available for purchase?

Gene,

I'm not sure where you're looking, but if you go to www.healthyhomeplans.com, 2004-V is right there on their home page. They are the only ones who sell the plan.

Thanks.

Howdy people.

These price estimates per square foot, ranging $185-200, are you counting the screened porch and/or basement in square footage?

And by the way, has anyone modified this to be on a slope with a walkout basement?

Thanks!

I was wondering how your house was coming. I saw your post about the mirrored house plans and was wondering-Did you buy the mirrored plans from HH plans or did you buy the originals and have your buildr do it. I'd love to pick your brain about how your house is coming. Also our budget is $300,000. Should I just scrap thinking about building this house?Do you see any way to maybe compromise on finishes and get it done for that and address those later. Thanks so much. we live in Tn. and it would probably be somewhat less costly than $185.00 a s.f but I'm wondering how much less. Thanks, Judy

Judy,we live in Ohio. We're just under $200 per s.f. with cost. Originally we too thought we could build this house for less because of where we live. In some parts of the country $200 per s.f. is considerably less for a house with this amount of detail. But it is precisely the level of detail and the finishes that make this house. We thought about eliminating certain details, but quickly realized that we would not be satisfied with the end result. If you've read Sarah's book " Home By Design ", you've probably noticed from her examples how detail changes the experience for the eye. I'm not a builder, but I don't think its possible to build this house for 300,000. Maybe someone else would care to weigh in on this one.

Sorry to disappoint you,

SSW

We are well into the planning stages to build the LV Showhouse, mirrored layout, with actual construction planned for spring-summer of 2008. The location is in NW Wisconsin on a high bank (with frontage) overlooking the Flambeau river -- a site that I have owned for about 25 years. I certainly would appreciate hearing from anyone else who is building this plan and will be happy to keep anyone interested apprised as to progress, trials, tribulations and and other issues.

This message is for all previous posters/builders of the 2004 Showhouse. Just wondered how your projects are coming along? We've been in our (2004-V) house for a little over a year and half now. Our house took approx. 15 months to complete. We were very faithful to the original house built in Stowe, Vermont, but did make some changes. Most notably, an enlarged mudroom with a pass through window into the kitchen and a dog wash area. The extra mudroom space was borrowed from the garage and has been very useful!. Building this house was a great experience. Hope to hear about your houses too.

Thanks
