Anyone else think Sarah would be a natural for a TV show on HGTV, or, given the writer's strike, perhaps even a reality-based architecture firm show on a larger network?
I'd guess that HGTV has already asked her, and she's turned 'em down, but I'd hope that she'd reconsider, if even just for a season... she communicates very well, and obviously has something important to say. Lectures are great, but you can reach such a broad audience through television.
An HGTV show would obviously be more narrowly-focused, but the idea of her being the focal point of a broader, reality-based TV show on a more mainstream network is even more interesting, and now is the PERFECT time, as due to the writer's strike, our airwaves are about to inundated with legions of reality TV shows, most of them with a lot less going for them than the show I'm describing, and very sub-par. Why not have a show that isn't?
Such a show wouldn't be just about 'Not So Big' stuff (though we'd get plenty of that, and should, as NSB vs Monster Homes is both important AND a cultural flash point, i.e. good TV), but it'd also be about the business, the real nitty-gritty of dealing with different types of clients, her partners and their unique takes on things, building and designing green, New Urbanism, and how the whole sub-prime/general economic mess is impacting the entire housing industry as well, perhaps.
A show that'd be about architecture and business but that'd also, by its very nature, speak to some larger issues, i.e. the way we live and why. And whether or not some aspects of that should change.
It'd be challenging, but fascinating, thought-provoking TV, and I think Sarah would be reaching (and influencing) a whole lot of people, even more than she's doing currently through her great efforts.
It's just a thought, but man, Sarah should be on TV on a regular basis, not just the occasional 'Charlie Rose' interview or one-shot PBS special. Sarah, there are far less talented folks with a lot less to say than you doing TV successfully, you really should take a swing.
