I would appreciate any feedback on whether it would be appropriate to use 1 3/4" (wide) x 1"(depth) actual size battons placed 16" on center over boards. We are building a new contemporary style house, and trying to achieve a nice board and batton look with cement board panels and trim. Thanks for any feedback.

I just did that very thing to our personal home and it work great. We used hardipanel (cedarmill) with Miratec for the batten strips. Miratec is more stable and straighter for the batten strip than the Hardi products.

Would you be able to tell me where you found the 1 3/4" x 1" battons in the hardipanel (cedarmill) with Miratec? I've special ordered all of my rough wood grain (cedarmill) trim from Home Depot. But, I don't believe that they could order trim with only a 1 3/4" width. Plus, didn't know about the Miratec for stability.

my firm Larson Brenner Architects has been unsing Miratec trim for some time on our board and batten designs. We always apply the trim over James Hardi sheet goods. Typically the lead time for the 1 3/4 x 1 is too long - so we will use the 3 1/2" product and have it ripped in half. This does expose the fibers along the ripped edge, so you need to make sure that is well primed. We have been doing this for a number of years and have not run into any problems.
