My kitchen cabinets are alder with a red stain and a black glaze, the counter tops are black granite, the floor is travertine, and the island is black. I need some direction choosing a coordinating dining table.

I love the look of 1/4 sawn oak, but I can't decided which stain to go with (I am leaning toward red with a black glaze), or if I should forgo the 1/4 sawn in favor of a different wood (and stain) that would coordinate better.

A hallway separates the kitchen from the dining room, so there's somewhat of a psychological division rather than a physical one (no walls) between the dining area and the kitchen. This is our sole eating area.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

It would be better if the dining is colored dark cherry red. From your description, your kitchen is good. The kitchen cabinets are made of alder materials so it looks stylish with the red stain and black glaze. I am planning to remodel my kitchen cabinets and you gave me an idea also! Thanks a lot...
