My husband and I would like to build a small energy-efficient house. Our contractor does some very nice work using geothermal energy to reduce year-round heating and cooling costs. We live in Iowa, and have extremes of heat and cold. We are empty nesters with lots of books, enjoy the feel of a craftsman style. Any suggestions out there for plans that are around 1500-1800 square feet of finished space (above ground)? We want to reduce clutter, live more simply, and we want to build an affordable house. Many of the Not So Big houses seem to be beyond our financial means.
