we are building "The Prairie House" designed by Sarah Susanka and sold by HealthyHome Designs. Anyone else out there building this same plan? Would love to hear your thoughts and share ideas. We are in the sheetrock stage and exterior siding.

We have completed three NSB houses, all of which can be seen in the Susanka books (in their original prototype form). In every case, the plans were very complete, down to trimout details. Has your experience been the same with the drawings?

The plans have been excellent. Having interior pictures from TNSB book has been very helpful as well as finding other pics of the house from Taunton's Idea Books. We are trimming out now. I would lvoe to hear from others who have built, are building are would like to build this same plan or similar.

Does anyone have any comments or regrets on choosing the Prairie House plan? We are looking to build and have narrowed our house plan search down to a few - would love any input or advice.

By Prairie House, do you mean the house plans titled "A River Runs Below It" on pp. 108-113 of NSBH? If so, we are.

No regrets what-so-ever and we have lived in our Prairie House for over a year. All the windows are great. We see so much of nature all the time and really feel connected to the outdoors. The house plan fits us perfectly. We only made a few changes. We took out the glass cabinet between the kitchen and dinning room to open up the kitchen to dinning area more. We left the buffet but did not put a divider in the buffet and created glass cabinets on the top. Really like that. Depending on how you use your space, may consider putting a door from the vestibule to the laundry room to create a "locker/mudroom" area? And instead of the closet in the laundry, make that the lockers. We did put the double doors for the vestibule and really do like that feature. I did not think I would but do. Good luck. Would love to hear what plan you choose.

My wife and I have cleared the lot for a "Prairie House." We also got the plans from HHD, but had an architect reverse them for our lot. He said there were many measurement errors on the plans. We also will add a finished basement. We also are adding a door from the vestibule area into the laundry/mud room, a good idea. We eliminated the second door in the vestibule. Maybe we'll regret it. What exterior did you use? We looked at HardiPlank, but are now considering a nice looking vinyl called CraneBoard. Also, we are using radiant heat with a geothermal heat and AC source. Should be an adventure. I will post and let you know how we are holding up.

we did not have any problems with our plans. Everything worked out great. We used Hardiplank siding. I tried to attach photo's. Difficulty with sizing and it does not want to work. I will try again.
