We are beginning our remodel after having worked with a wonderful designer who helped with the big decisions and design regarding walls, window placement, and ceiling and roof design. Now we are looking for someone to help us plan our built ins, windows, trim, and interior design. We love all of the Not So Big House books and want to find someone in our area (Palo Alto) compatible with those philosophies. Can someone help us figure out how to find the right person? Thanks.
The first place to look would be the home professionals directory on this site. Although there are not a lot of interior designers listed under California, you might search architects too, as many of them are also interior designers, and can do your built-ins, windows, trim very well. Another option is to talk to the designer who did such a wonderful job on the big decisions, and ask for recommendations. It's likely that he/she has worked with interior designers and has a trusted favorite.
Marie, Thanks for your suggestion. I actually thought the designer would do the built ins and trim, etc. It was a bit of a surprise to us when we learned she did not involve herself at this stage. Her office is several miles away and this time we want to find someone local. We'll keep looking for someone to help fill the gap. Thanks again, Annie
