My husband and I have about three years until we retire and move for what will likely be the last time. We will be leaving Houston, TX and going to the Raleigh area of NC. We think we have one final house left in us but don't even know where to begin. We very much like the idea of a small, open house with only the spaces that we will use. In our case that would be a big multi-purpose living/dining/kitchen, a master bedroom/bath, a guest/office/library with a second bath and a wine room. I'm even OK with putting the laundry facilities in the secondary bathroom or the garage. The problem is that we want all of this on one floor and most of the houses we see on this site are multi-storied. The other issue is, to my knowledge there are no builders in the Raleigh area that build such spaces and we can't afford to buy property and develop it for the house we want. We have always had houses in typical subdivisions where we have been at the mercy of site restrictions and select floorplans. Can anyone address our dilema?
