On page 29 of Inside the NSBH, there is a lovely over-toilet shelf. What are the dimensions of the shelf, and how is it supported / attached to the wall?

Hi Bill and Tamar,

I emailed your question to Tina Govan, the architect who designed the house you're referring to, and she replied with the following:

I left a lot of discretion up to the builder who made those shelves, actually. They are small shelves, just 1x4s, and not meant to carry much weight. They are hung from above, with the two vertical pieces screwing into short blocks which are screwed into framing at the ceiling. Long sturdy screws penetrate the shelves and support them off of the vertical pieces. And if I remember right, I think there is a small ledger at the wall below the bottom shelf.
